About Chris Batu
Video games, computer games, pizza, and soda. For a very long time, that was the extent of what I was doing with my life. I worked, went to school, went home and immediately got in front of my computer or my tv screen and spent the rest of the evening gaming my time into oblivion. Sometimes, I miss those days a lot because they were a lot of fun. What I don’t miss is being around 210 pounds and having cholesterol levels almost in the 300s, and being only in my mid 20s. For a long time, I didn’t care. In fact, I didn’t even know what was happening to me and where my life was headed.
It took several potentially devastating life altering events to wake me up.
My mother has been dealing with Diabetes for a long time. It was just a normal part of life for my family and I to not eat too many sweet things and to make sure mom wasn’t getting overloaded with sugar. Simple enough. Sadly, she eventually became partially insulin dependent. That wasn’t the kicker though. My poor mother had to suffer two mild strokes and a life threatening infection that took the sight from one of her eyes to wake me up, to get my attention focused on where my life was headed. Thankfully, my mother, bless her, survived it all and though she is now blind in one eye, thank goodness it’s just the one and that the infection hadn’t taken an even worse toll.
As if that wasn’t enough to worry about. My father contracted colorectal cancer. With great care and a great doctor, the cancer was able to be removed without the need of a colostomy bag, but it was close. At some points I wasn’t even sure if my father was going to make it at all. Those were hard hard times, but again, by a measure of grace my father has been clear of it since then (knocking on all the wood I can find!).
Enough was enough. If I didn’t get ahead of myself and turn the ship around, I was going to end up with terrible life-threatening diseases of my own. The day had some where I just NEEDED to do something for myself , my family, and my future family.
Beachbody has given me the programs, the supplements, and the community that has empowered me to take control of my own life. I started with P90X and have since then worked my way through P90X+, All of the One on One series workouts, Insanity, Insanity: Asylum, Turbo Fire, ChaLean Extreme, RevAbs, Les Mills Pump, and currently, P90X2. In fact, my success with Insanity was ALMOST enough to get me on the infomercial, but you might catch my transformation pictures if you’re paying close attention. Here’s an idea of what my Insanity journey was like:
As I was progressing through my own journey, I was able to drag a few of my closest friends into it with me. I watched as they also took control of their lives and their health and fitness and the transformations amazed me, not just in their physical changes, but their personal and emotional changes were astounding as well. As our excitement grew and people began to catch on to the changes we’d made in our lives, other people wanted to do what we were doing and more and more people started coming to do workouts with us. After some careful consideration, we decided that we would pursue coaching as a way to reach out and help as many people as we could to help them find in themselves what we had found in ourselves. That fateful night, as we sat around a small foldout table brainstorming ideas and day dreaming of what was ahead of us, THAT TEAM was born.
Since then, I have embarked on a journey to learn and grow as much as I can in terms of leadership so that I can also coach people professionally on leadership and team leadership skills. I have dedicated and poured much of my life and time into learning the material and giving it back out to my team because the success of the individuals on THAT TEAM is my top priority because that will in turn ensure the success of the team as a whole. Leadership means modeling, so I have committed myself like never before to consistent workouts, following through on a nutrition plan without allowing regular cheats, and continually developing myself with the intent of adding that value back into other’s lives.
Beachbody has saved my life with programs and supplements that I love and appreciate. I’ve met some of the most positive and inspiring people I have ever known within the Beachbody Coaching community. And, I have the opportunity to work with, develop, and grow from friends and coaches within my own team while working together to build a shared vision. Life is so much better than it was a few years ago. I never would have pictured myself to be doing the things that I am now. In living that transformation, I know full well that people are capable of tremendous change if they just have the right coach to help them find and discover their own unique potential, then maximize it! As an Independent Team Beachbody Coach, that is my mission in business, and in life.
